Rape is not ok.
Something I’ve noticed a lot on tumblr lately is a sickening trend where girls post photos of women with bruises, marks, and cuts all over their body and pictures of both men & women simulating rape as if this is sexy/cool/attractive.
Rape is NOT any of those things. At. All.
Rape is absolutely disgusting.
The sexual abuse of women is such a huge problem in our society and I was genuinely surprised that on a lot of these blogs these same girls also posted feminist quotes. Oh, you’re a ‘feminist’, so I guess that makes the photo you just posted of a beaten up women getting raped look like art then? So its totally cool? No. It’s not. You are not a feminist either, just a total moron.
1 in 5 women in Australia will experience sexual violence in their lifetime. Still sexy? Probably not. Would you happily sit down at a women’s refuge centre filled with victims of sexual violence & show them your blog that glorifies these violent acts? Again, probably not.
So next time you want to post something a little risqué and sexy, maybe think twice about posting a picture of that woman scantily clad, chained up & abused. Odds are that 1 in 5 women you know may experience something like that in their lifetime - and I can guarantee you they don’t think it’s ‘sexy’.
